SWIMMING

There are two pools at the Folkestone Sports Centre. The main swimming pool is perfect for swimming lengths; or if you prefer you can take a ride through the exciting 100-foot flume.

If you don't know how to swim or would like to teach your child, the smaller teaching pool is ideal. A wide range of courses are offered for children and adults of all ages and abilities. The courses run continually throughout the year and last from 6 to 8 weeks. All courses are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to book early. Phone 01303 850777 for more information.

Junior courses include the following:

  • Play and Learn (for parents and children 2-5 years)
  • Water Skills (where children 3 and older gain confidence in the water)
  • Child Learn To Swim (teaching children 4-12 years to swim on their front and back)
  • Child Improver (where children 5 years and over enhance their techniques)

Adult courses include the following:

  • Adult Improve (developing techniques)
  • BSAC Snorkelling (for all the family)
  • RLSS (lifeguards and instructors)

In addition to these courses private lessons can be arranged. Pre and Post Natal Aqua fitness sessions are available for mums-to-be and new mums. For those who like to swim with groups, Special Swims of all varieties are regularly scheduled. And then there is the FSC Swimming Club geared toward boys and girls of all ages and standards. The swimming club sessions help children develop their strength, style, and technique as well as offering a chance for friendly competition.

Both pools are available on a limited basis for private hire and parties. For a refundable 10p you can use the clothes lockers located on the Poolside while you swim. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible swimmer aged 16 or over. The flume is available for competent swimmers.

The pools are open Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 10:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM.

SKIING

An all-year-round dry ski slope is available for everyone at the Folkestone Sports Centre. Here a vast range of activities is offered for those who like to ski, snowboard, and toboggan, no matter what level of skill you demonstrate. Friendly ASSI qualified instructors offer one-hour private tuition for beginners, advanced skiers, children, and families; advanced booking is essential. Ski equipment servicing and hire is also available, and reasonably priced ski and snowboard overseas holidays are regularly available.

Other Ski Centre activities include:

  • Snow-rings -- new to this country
  • An Adult Evening Ski Course
  • A weekly Ski Social
  • Open Practice (enabling you to ski at your own level)
  • Sunday Coaching, Snowboarding Lessons and Open Practice
  • Xtreme Snowboard Nights

The FSC Ski Racing Club invites competent skiers to join and participate in competitions and training abroad.

The Ski Centre is open weekdays 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM and weekends 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Phone 01303 850333 for more information on the Ski Centre and courses or visit the Folkestone Ski website.
